iMac (mid 2010) not installing WD Elements software

I have recently purchased a 2 TB WD Elements external hard drive to move some very special family photos from my old iMac so that they are safe.

I have plugged in the hard drive for the first time and had to download ‘Western Digital Software’ but at 41% of the download I initially had an error saying there was a problem with the download and now after trying again the download window closes itself at around 40% and there is still no way for me to access the hard drive to start storing photos? During the download the ‘Western Digital Drive’ application appears but then disappears when the download closes itself.

Is there any way that this can be resolved? I know this Mac is old but when I purchased the hard drive it said it should already be formatted for Mac?

Any help would be greatly appreciated and let me know if there is any further information required in order to assist.

Many thanks.
