How to use my 3TB MYCLOUD as an external hard drive

I am almost out of space on my internal hard drive, so I want to use my 3TB MY Cloud as an external hard drive with my Windows 8 desktop. I need to know how to connect the two (I may be already there, my desktop is connected with Ethernet to my router, and MY Cloud is connected by wire to the router). How do I move files to the My Cloud? It already does periodic backups using Smart Ware.

Bad idea for several reasons. The gaping security holes in these products make the WDMC a poor choice for, well, anything really, but especially for important files.

But you have it connected correctly already. Just map a drive letter to it and do what you want with it.

If I have the latest firmware, am I still vulnerable? Updated 4-20-17

You cannot use the single bay/single drive My Cloud like an external USB hard drive and attached it to the USB port on your computer. The My Cloud drive is a network attached storage device. The USB port on the My Cloud enclosure is for attaching external USB hard drives to increase the My Cloud storage capacity or to use as a Safepoint/Backup location for backing up the My Cloud contents.

As the previous post indicated just map the My Cloud to your computer and treat it as another hard drive (so to speak).

Otherwise if you really want to use the My Cloud’s internal hard drive as an external USB hard drive then remove the MY Cloud hard drive from it’s enclosure and insert it into an external USB enclosure/docking station or attach it to a spare SATA port on your computer and reformat the drive and use it like you would any other internal or external hard drive attached to the computer.
