How to upgrade firmware

Good evening from cold Canada. 

I’ve been reading all the posts and any info I can find on upgrading my firmware… but I can’t figure it out… can someone please tell me where I’m going wrong?

I downloaded the update (3 files) put them in the root directory of my USB stick.  (tried 2 different sticks)

I plugged in the USB to the WD (tried both USB slots)

Turn on the drive, choose settings >>> but all the documents I’ve read say that there should be a update firmware showing up at this point… and it’s not here.

I’m confused… anyone can help me?

Are you sure that if you have a WDTV Live you have the update for a WDTV Live and not for a WDTV Live Plus, or if you have a Live Plus, that you have the update for a Live Plus and not for a Live?

They’re the same version numbers, but different files.  And they won’t work (or even be recognized) on the wrong device.

Well it was that easy!  I didn’t even know there was a difference.  I checked my model # and thought I had 'er done right!
