Cannot upgrade firmware on WD HD Live Plus

I have been trying to update to the beta firmware for the last several days (off and on). I have a WD HD Live Plus running 1.03.29_B. I have tried the following:

Download zip file containing firmware, extract with 7zip, copy onto flash drive (from Win 7 64bit) into root directory of drive. Attached flash drive to WD device – no option to upgrade available.

I tried moving all other files into folders to only firmware files are accessible in root folder on drive - no dice.

I tried using a standard external harddrive (Maxtor, bus-powered) - no dice.

I tried doing all this from a 32-bit version of Windows 7 – no dice.

I have tried formatting my flash drive to FAT, FAT32, and NTFS – with only firmware on flash drive.

I confirmed WD can see the drive by placing an MP4 file on it and playing it.

I’ve reset to factory defaults (grasping straws at this point).

I have tried everything I can think of. Is this firmware supposed to work on the Plus too? I just got this thing a couple weeks ago and have had trouble playing M4V and MP4 files since I got it and was hoping this firmware would resolve those issues.

Anyone else attempt to update the Plus? Experiences or recommendations?

That’s because there’s no such thing as a firmware upgrade for the Live Plus yet.

Ok, that makes sense. I was reading about the chipset differences and started thinking WD may have to have different firmware branches. This is a bit disappointing, I was really hoping my MP4 woes would be soon solved. Oh well.

Nice to know they are working on the old wdtv and not fixing the wdtv live plus issues that it was sold with.

I believe that they are working on both. The original live was also sold with ‘issues’, so therefore you may agree that the users of that may have a higher priority.
