How to retrieve new WD My Passport Ultra DRIVERS?

Hi,

I just got my new external (WD My Passport Ultra) and i haven’t yet install the drivers. Unfortunately, my friend accidentally drop it and as i plug it on my computer, the external name change to “Local Disk (G:)” and it prompts to “Format the disk”.

What should i gonna do with this?

Is there any ways to get back the drivers? or should i format the disk and download and install drivers instead.

Thanks!

It’s more likely that the drive has been physically damaged by the drop - hard drives are fragile items and need to be treated with care. If you try the format you’ll probably find that it fails to complete or that afterwards the drive is still unusable.

The MyPassport doesn’t actually need drivers to work as a basic drive, the SES drivers are only needed if you want to use the extended features like security and encryption. If it had survived the drop then it would still show up as “MyPassport”, the fact is shows up as just a “Local Disk” is a fair indicator that it’s knackered.

To answer your original question though, the software for the MP Ultra is available from the download page ( here). You can also test the drive using WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics (details here) although I’m not sure if that will give much assistance if the drive is physically damaged (the read/write heads of the drive may be crashed or misaligned for example).

If the drive is physically damaged, you’ll need to raise an RMA to get it replaced under warranty (see here and follow the links from it).

Okay, noted. Thank you, it will help a lot.
