How to do remote streaming to PC (Mac) from MyCloud?

As far as I can tell… the only access to my home server is via a browser login to mycloud.com. I can access all my files. I can download files if I wish. But what I’d like to do is stream my movie files. I can remotely stream to my iPhone via the MyCloud app… and I want the same functionality for my Mac. Does anyone know if this is possible?
Thanks

connecting to your home network via a home VPN is an option if your router supports it.

One can use the WD Desktop program on their computer or the WD mobile apps for Android or iOS devices to play/stream music (to some extent). But in the end the My Cloud is not really designed to be used as a remote storage device for streaming music. Streaming can be done through the WD software but it is usually very clunky (and may be limited in capability).

As the previous poster indicated one could setup a VPN connection to their local network and stream media that way. Of course how well one can stream remotely is in part dependent on the upload speed of the broadband connection of the network the My Cloud is on.

For remotely streaming any media I suggest Plex. You can install it directly on the My Cloud on apps section. The scans will take a lot of CPU at first, but when it is finished, it should run nice

The single bay/single drive My Cloud units do not officially support Plex, nor do they officially have the option to enable or install third party apps like Plex on the “apps” tab. The 1st Gen single bay My Cloud units do not even have an “apps” tab.

There are a variety of unofficial methods to installing Plex on both the 1st Gen and 2nd Gen single bay My Cloud units but all involve using SSH and modifying the My Cloud firmware.

Oh!

Sorry, I have Plex installed on Mycloud mirror, I thought that single bay had the same features.

Sorry for giving a wrong suggestion.

Since I do not have a basic My Dloud, but rather a higher end WD NAS, I am not sure what the basic My Cloud is capable of, but I can stream mp4/m4v videos at home AND remotely (given decent internet speeds at both ends of a remote connection) using the My Cloud app installed on my iOS devices.

Easy to find out. Try streaming a video from the MC at home using the app for doing this; the My Cloud app. It should be successful, and best to use the faster 5G wireless signal. Now, next time you are at a location with at least 20-25 Mbps bandwidth for downloads, try it remotely. You may have to turn on some options related to streaming and remote use in your My Cloud for all these things to happen,See the full user manual.

As far as I know, one cannot stream to a computer remotely; one needs a mobile device like iPhone, iPad etc. You can only play video on a remote computer by downloading the file from remote location. Get a basic 2017 iPad. They are now cheaper than ever.
