Help! Unable to change permission to read & write on new My Passport Ultra for MAC

Hi all. I am getting super frustrated with WD. I have a macbook running MAC OS Catalina. I am using the My Passport Ultra for Mac. The system recognizes the drive and allows me to read it but I cannot write to it. It also does not let me change the permissions. Help!

By the way … this same drive works (allows me to write to it) on another mac with Mojave OS

When clicking on the padlock to change to read & write I get the following message:

I had this problem several times. Always after updating my MAC-OS without disconnecting my extern disk. With Apple Disk Utilities you can recover the owners writing rights for your disk and you can use TimeMachine again. So every time you update your OS you have to disconnect your disk(s), than you don’t have the problem. Otherwise you have tor recover your rights.
