My MBLD green LED keeps blinking (disc activity?). Switched off all computers, disconnected all computers from the networtk, switched off back-up proces in WD Smart Ware, switched of remote access. Still blinking. For one month now…

I have the same problem here. My box is the 6TB one. After I put about 1.8 TB of data on it, the drive had been blinking green for a week now. It is very slow to access the GUI and the drive itself to take my data out and control it.

I have just read some other articles regarding this same problem but I could not format it as some of you said because all of my data is inside it now.

Please advice

You did not say but do you have Hard Disk Sleep enabled under Energy Saver?

Hi,

I do experiance a similar behaviour.

  • 6TB 

  • Raid1

  • 1 TB used

  • power saving enabled

  • the hdd keeps busy

What I have tried …

  • let it rebuild the DlNA Database

  • reboot it

  • remove network connection

  • disable DLNA and Itunes Server

none of the above steps did change anything regarding HDD activity. 

I am looking forward to the next update and I do hope  that this permanent activity stops.

if anyone has a solution for that, please let me know.

Dear all,

I did some tests:

1. switched off all comunication (no external access, etc), Sleepmode enabled, kept it on LAN: No results

2. back tot factory default: GOOD! Blue LED after no activity (External access = default ON)

3. Made it Raid 1 (factory default = Raid 0): GOOD! Blue LED after no activity

  1. Started Back-up using WD Smart ware: BAD! Green LED on, sometimes blink, NEVER Blue

  2. Switched off PC: BAD! Green LED on, sometimes blink, NEVER Blue

  3. Switched off all PC in network: BAD! Green LED on, sometimes blink, NEVER Blue

  4. Accessed WD from other PC (no back-up running on this PC) using the Dashboard: My back-up file (from other PC) still gets new timestamp every 3 -5 minutes, while the PC with the the scheduled back-up is OFF.

Is the back-up software on the WD continiously changing the back-up file, EVEN WITHOUT the PC connected?

If so, it might explain the green led, that sometimes blinks, and it never goes into sleepmode…

Any idea?

My problem seems to be solved, but experienced some strange behaviour.

Did following:

Removed all apps (on iPhone, iPad, GalaxyPhone), removed WD Smartware/Quickview from 2nd PC in Network, removed back-up, stopped back-up in WD Smartware, disabled External Connection, disabled iTunes, disabled DNLA, restarted MBLD (by WD webinterface), switched off 1st PC, waited 15 min: Sleepmode :slight_smile:

Started 1st PC (WD Quickview started also): Out sleepmode (green), waited 15 min: Sleepmode :slight_smile: (no back-up is running).

Started Back-up using WD Smartware: Out sleepmode (green). LED will stay green (blinks now and then).

Stopped 1st PC, waited 15 min: Sleepmode :slight_smile:

Installed WD 2go app on iPhone, try to connect MBLD… succeeded (??). Closed the app, waited 15 min: Sleepmode.

Started 1st PC, checked settings for External Connection: it was ENABLED?

It looks like the attempt to connect with the WD2go app enables the external connection again…

Maybe someting for another topic…
