Getting started issues.... Need help

I just installed the My Book Essential External Hard Drive.  I followed the instructions and accomplished the first backup.  Even though, it says only a partial back up was accomplised???  So, I assume some of my files are not backed up.  That’s scarey.  How do I know what files are not backed up and how do I get them backed up?

Also, I don’t see any place to set up a back up schedule.  So, how do I know my files are being backed up?  

Tried to get the updates that were available.  Obviously they downloaded and seemed to extract.  Trying the follow the instructions in the manual though, I would not swear they are working though.  Many steps that the manual said would happen did not.  :(

Clearly I am a novice.  All help appreciated…

Unfortunately I know  as little as you and wonder many of your questions as well!

I wonder is it at all possible to give some timetable for backupping?

Or has one to decide and start backupping manually each time one wants to do it?

Would appriciate too if users who have more experience would try to answer for us newbies! :slight_smile:

Also I have two unanswered questions, which I suppose someone would know the answer!

Try using a different software than what came with the drive. Acronis True Image is a great program, and easy to use. It will guide you through the entire process, and gives you a lot of different backup options. I use all of my MYBook drives without using the built-in software, there’s a lot more control over what you’re doing and you’re not regulated by what’s built-in on the drive.

Took a look at Acronis True Image website.  Looks like that is cloud backup.  Not sure how that helps with my external hard drive.  

Acronis True Image is not Cloud, I use Acronis all the time to backup to external drives. Look for earlier versions than 2013, like maybe the 2010 version, that’s the one I use.
