Free 4GB of RAM. 2X2GB, Removed from a PR4100

I wasn’t sure where to put this message. I upgraded my RAM in my PR4100 and will never use this. If anyone wants this for a RAM upgrade for a DL2100 I’d be willing to mail this to you. (Continental United States Only). I figured I had to put that in to keep my postage reasonable. If someone wants this and is not in the lower 48 then you would have to make arrangements with me.

Im sending dswv42 the RAM, just wanted to let people know this post is dead. Thank you.

can I ask you how much RAM your PR4100 has now? I have a new 16TB unit with the STD 4GB serving up Plex…do you see much difference ? According to the Dashboard my current usage isn’t taxing the RAM, however I just feel bad for anything running with 4GB tbh

Hey there Surroundedbytrees…Sorry for the delay in answering this question as I had a death in the family. Tbh I purchased the PR4100 with 32TB and paid just about $1650 and purchased the RAM at the same time but it just arrived from amazon 3 days later. I bought the NAS mainly to run a Plex server as well. I wish I would have tested the Plex server with 4GB compared to the 16GB but I didn’t. From what I have read the Plex server will not tax your RAM. I just figured that since I just spent so much on the NAS why not pay a little more to upgrade the RAM. I justified the purchase if, god forbid, a HDD does fail, Im thinking the added RAM will be advantageous for rebuilding the array? I don’t know if I am correct, but that was my logic for purchasing the extra RAM. I ran my Plex server and with the 16GB I have now it stayed at 6% usage. I remember watching a YouTube video on the PR4100 and the guy had 3 streams going on different devices where the NAS had to transcode and it was the CPU usage that limited how many devices were watching at anyone time. Sorry I can’t be more precise in my answer…good luck!

Thx very much for the reply…perhaps Ill upgrade the Ram when i find a good sale

Anytime! Yeah, from what i’m discovering online is people have been buying RAM for this and other models of NAS. They are trying to figure out how to utilize the extra RAM that the NAS will never use. I’m finding a lot of NAS devices are maxing out at 8 GB…it’s strange that the PR4100 maxes out at 16GB. I purchased 16GB at the same time I bought this NAS for approx. $110 and it was DDR3L Crucial RAM. People are trying to figure out, if its possible, to use the extra RAM as drive caches and RAM drives! Good Luck…

I bumped mine from 4GB to 8GB, Mine sets around 16% all the time. had an ex2 that was always memory tanked, thats why i upgraded. anyway, I figured i would up the memory just in case. so i installed 2 4gb sticks…
