Format drive and download questions

I have a Western Digital My Passport Ultra with the following identifiers:
P/N WDBZFP0010BBK-04
S/N WXM1E14HKLK3 0515B
R/N D8B DCAJFA
The drive has been used for backups on an older computer. I would like to use this drive for backups on a Windows 10 computer.
I would like to do two tasks.
a. Reformat the drive to clean everything off including extra partitions that are on the drive.
b. Download the latest Western Digital Windows 10 Western Digital software so that I can install the latest on the internal disk drive and have the latest software on the backup drive so that I can rebuild the internal drive if there is a catastrophic disk failure.
Do you have Technical notes or other guidance that I can download and follow to complete these two tasks.
Thank you in advance for any help that you can provide.

Hi,

You need to download software from WD. Click on Downloads in the tab above. You can delete extra partitions with windows Disk Manager.
You need WD Discovery, WD Security, WD Utilities and either WD Backup (newest) or WD Smartware ( not WD supported anymore). Both have Help tabs which will guide you. Also, consider using two or more partitions on the Passport and give them names which tells you what it is backing up.

I don’t think you can directly rebuild the internal drive from the Passport. I’d suggest that you be sure to include a “downloads folder” in backups, which would contain any software you download from the Internet.

I hope this helps. Cliff

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. Your reply clarifies which software I need to download. Should I use a WD utility to format the drive or use Windows Disk Manager?

Glad it helped.

I always the WD Utility format. Probably just jumps to the Windows
format, but I like to stick with WD.
