I have a 3TB WD Elements drive that I use for backups. I keep it unpowered until I use it (weekly). When I power it up, Disk Management shows it but forgets it’s drive letter. Is there a solution?
The possible causes for such an issue can be an incompatible file system, missing drive letter, disk driver issues, damaged partition issues on the hard drive. In a worst-case, the drive itself is failing.
You can try the below fixes to resolve the issue:
- Initialize the drive or drive partition
- Change/Assign drive letter
- Update Disk drivers
- Enable drive in BIOS
