Firmware 2.02.32 Not playing all mp4 files

Rollback Firmware to 2.01.86 guide here:

Any info on how far WD is regarding fixing this bug?

Reverted back to previous firmware and mp4 files are playing again.

I have 650 movies many of which are mp4’s the only ones I have not been able to play were made with Proshow Producer. For those I did a batch remux with handbrake making sure the web optimized radio button was on. No problems afer that.

Hi folks,

I have the same issue… downgrade already my device and add my thread here with the hopes that someday an Update will appear (maybe published here as well) …

cheers,  let me know if there is an 2.0x.xy without new miss-functions.

Yes I would think most people have this issue that use mp4 files. Old codecs seem not to work and all apple itunes like tags make files not work as well. It’s a major bug, the way to get back to the older version needs to be put somewhere so we can get at it instead of hidding it as deeply as it is. I’ve stopped all my friends from updating so their players are working, mine isn’t (but all my other non-WD players work fine).

That’s the problem not the fix!!! That’s the link to break my WD TV Live player not put it back a version so it works again!

That’s a link to the old software, but not to anything that can be loaded to to back to the old software. Once updated a new software link is needed even to put it back to an older version, this link doesn’t have that. We need the link to put back the old software when we’ve already updated to 2.02.32 (8/11/14). Yes that means going back to 2.01.86 or whatever it was, b ut it has to ‘think’ it’s a newer version to be able to put it in the player. I still haven’t seen or found that link here!

‘All 5 and don’t forget to edit the “wdtvlivegen3.ver” as mentioned.’

As mentioned where??? What are you talking about? There’s nothing in the zip file that mentioned it! Why to you make this so hard? You know many of the updates have major bugs.

That was an older post (i’ve removed it now) … follow this new guide to Rollback Firmware to 2.01.86

yes, there are a *few* steps… but that’s how it’s been done for years with WDTV media players

Chill, dude. Searching for rollback on this forum would have done the trick but before you keep spamming,  here’s the link to the firmware you need to get back to 2.01.86.

EDIT: Or take Joey’s link.

OK, after much reading and re-reading of the various pages to do with the mp4 problem I got the player reverted to 2.01.86 and the mp4 files are playing agian. Please put all the information needed in one place and a link to it (or it) on the download page for the update as many updates have major bugs like this one.

All files (5) need to be in the root (main directory) of the USB drive. last firmware:

http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownload/WD-TV-Live-Streaming-Media-Player-Firmware-20186-Download-316523.html

need to: Edit the wdtvlivegen3.ver file using notepad and change the version info to 2.02.33 (needs to be higher to be able install - don’t worry this won’t affect the firmware version, just used to trick the box to accept a lower version). So it will look like:

VERSION=‘2.02.33’

LOCATION=‘wdtvlivegen3.bin’

PKG_LOCATION=‘wdtvlivegen3.pkg’

ROOTFS2=‘wdtvlivegen3.bi2’

There, all the information in one place :wink:

All my MP4 home videos that were taken with my digital camera will not play with the new firmware but play fine with the previous.  Please fix this ASAP.

It’s already been in one place and people capable of using the search function actually did find this link.

Fix it how? Since noone in this thread could be bothered to provide sample files,there’s not much anyone can do to reproduce it, no?

Rolling back to 2.01.86 fixed the issue of MP4s not playing. I upgraded last night and movies won’t play (MP4s) but after rolling back, everything works again.

Finally and mp4 video file my WDTV can’t play. Its the way it is muxed that the new firmware doesnt like. A quick remux  with MP4box and it works. I hope WD have discovered this by now…

EDIT:

the non functioning file has a format profile: “Base Media/Version 2” and CodecID: “mp42”

the remuxed working files have a format profile: “Base Media” and CodecID: “isom”

Remuxing may fix the MP4 files not playing but for others it’s not an option purely because the size of the library a person has. Sure I can use MP4Box to remux my videos but it would take me days going through it. WD should just fix it and release a better firmware.

Here is a sample (even though it is scary to think after 3 weeks they would still have no idea why they broke MP4 playback for a lot of people):
