I am new to the portable My Passport and I need to know how to see the data that is being backed up. On MY BOOK you can see all the files and dates of backup, but on the Passport I can’t seem to find that information.
I know the files that I checked off to be backed up, but how do I see those that are on the external hard drive itself?
Hi,
Yeah, I had the same feeling originally.
You have two choices depending on whether you use a password or not.
A. With a password the data on the backup drive is encrypted and you cannot open the files directly on the drive. But you can copy the files from the backup drive, decrypt them, and save them on the PC and read them there.
B. Without the password you can do the same thing, but also you can read the files directly from the backup drive.
Using the password as in A. and assuming you use WD Backup, start WD Discovery and select ‘apps’. Open WD Backup. On Backup, select Restore at the top and click on the ‘Help’ at the bottom of the Restore screen. This will give the steps to find your files and copy them to your PC. Just make sure you don’t Restore to the original location. Now you can Read, Listen or Look at them. OK,
The steps for B are a bit more difficult, but you will be looking directly at the Backup files, rather than copies. Find your Backup drive using Windows Explorer. Unless you renamed it, it will be named "Passport’ or similar. Open it and you should see a folder named ‘WD Backup.swstor.’ Open that and continue opening folders until you get one with folders named ‘History’ and ‘Volume{XXX/}’. Open the Volume one. There you see folders matching what you selected to backup. You should be able to Read. Listen or Look at them.
I hope this helps you.

Hey thanks so much. I’ll give it a try some time this next week. I really have to concentrate so I don’t make stupid mistakes. Thanks again!
