Access to files that were backed up

I recently bought a WD passport ultra. I backup files, and now I’d like to view them. How can I view the files? I see an option to “retrieve” files, but that doesn’t allow me to simply view the passport’s files? I don’t want to retrieve 20 gb of photos, just view them and see what I have backed up.

Will retrieving them make duplicates and put them on my computer’s hard drive?

You can view your files by accessing your Passport drive without the software from Windows Explorer just like a regular external hard drive/flash drive/thumb drive. Inside your Passport you’ll notice a folder with the extension “SWSTOR”. This folder holds your backup.

That won’t happen if you select the option to retrieve to specific folder of your choice.

Thanks for the info. I looked in windows explorer and did not see the folder with the extension SWSTOR. Just a folder EXTRAS and LOCALE. I searched within both, neither have SWSTOR in them.

That means there’s no backup done yet, or the backup is not being handled by a WD app.
