When I copy the files from NAS to USB drive connected to laptop via ethernet I got ~110MB/s, but when I connected USB drive do NAS, and use USB Backups app from My Cloud I got only ~35MB/s.
CPU on NAS is on 100% when using USB Backups apps, I thought it should be a lot faster than 100MB/s and not 3x slower.
Am I wrong?
WiFi throughput can be slower and USB speeds vary depending on several factors.
High CPU loads suggest a software defined interface which uses the main CPU instead of using a separate processor
I have not written anywhere that I use WiFi.
I wrote that copying data NAS->router->laptop->USBdisk via ethernet cable is faster than NAS->USBdisk (using wd local app called USB Backups. It should be the other way around, NAS->USBdisk should copy faster because there is USB 3.1
The interface may be USB 3.1 but the underlying disk may be slower especially with the modern low cost drive managed shingled media
when should copying be faster?
option 1. NAS → USB disk
option 2. NAS → router → laptop → USB disk
I won’t believe it’s normal for the second option to be faster.
