Connecting EX2 via USB

Hi,

I am trying to connect my laptop to my WD EX2 in order to transfer files from my laptop to my EX2 at higher speeds.

I can’t find any instructions on how to do this, but understood it was possible!

When I connect my laptop to my EX2 I would have expected it to appear as a device, but nothing happens. When connected, I can continue to transfer over wifi (at 5MBPS) or wired through router (10MBPS).

Can anyone advise please??

Thanks

Hi sicole.

Sorry, but I didn’t find any info on EX2 manual about using a PC directly connected to NAS USB port.

But only detail on devices requirements (FAT/32, NTFS, HFS+J formats) that are strictly referred to HDs.

So, it seems that only 08h USB Class Mass Storage Devices  (HDs, USB sticks, Memory cards and few other) can be used connected to EX2 USB port.

Maybe someone else here on forum has more info on this.

Regards

I don’t believe it is possible but I’m not an expert.

To get higher speeds, using gigabit ethernet will make a huge difference. I went from similar speeds you are getting to anywhere up to 65-70 MB/s now

Hi,

It is not possible because your NAS is more like a mini computer. Just imagine if you connect two computers’ USB port, what will happen? None of them will recoginze the other as an external device.

I would suggest you connecting your computer directly to EX2 via Ethernet cable, if you want to speed up. Depending on the type of Ethernet cable you use, you may get different improvement. If you want the best result, make sure you use a1000 Mbps.

Or if you are an expert or you’re not afraid of doing research, you can first transfer all your data on an external hard disk, then connect the external hard disk to EX2 via USB port. Finally SSH to your EX2 and use cp command to copy files from the external hard disk to your EX2.
