Encryption Confuses Recovery?

HI All,

I’ve all but given up on a 2TB new drive. That thread/screen shots are here. The drive letter appears, shows as “RAW”, and doesn’t make noises other then spinning up, just like a normal drive sounds.

I took it into the data recovery shop last week. I explained the drive has an encryption chip on the enclosure’s board, not in the drive. I’m not sure they listened to that…The first thing they did was take the drive out of the case and connect to their tools. They stated there is a hardware problem because they are not seeing typical behaviour…but probably didn’t factor in that’s it’s encrypted.

They explained their tools will extract the data in 1’s and 0’s regardless if there is any encryption. Why would they not try some normal recovery with the unit in the enclosure?

bleep this is frustrating.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I don’t know if it’s to late now but there is some software that might have helped fix the problem. EaseUS Data Recovery Wizzard http://www.easeus.com/resource/raw-partition-recovery.htm  or Test Disk http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk There ius also a command prompt that sometimes works.
