Can two macs use the same WD 10g easystore external drive (plugged into my airport router) for time machine backups at the exact same time?

No, the WD Easystore drives are plug n play external hard drives and recommended to connect to USB port of Computer directly. Always recommended to connect NAS drives with router, not DAS. Although, Mac Time Machine will detect only one drive as a backup destination during data backup process.
