DX4000 restore

Hi all,

Been looking for a while to solve my problem and have tried many suggestions, mostly by Gramps as he looks to be the DX4000 champ!

Anyways, cannot get a restore going, tried 2 different versions of the ISO creating boot USB sticks many times on different machines. Now trying to get the recreate my storage to work and that just sits with Initializing OK loading recovery showing for ages (overnight). I am just trying to see if the boot USB is being created correctly. I cannot see a log file on the USB boot stick, should this be on there before you boot from it (just after created)

Thanks muchly all!

Sounds like you have a bad iso download. You have to be able to check it with the hash file

I have no clue if this is the file you downloaded or if my download is good either but here is something

I have the generated value, do I need to put a value from the WD website or just copy paste the generated one ?

The download should come with a value, you can paste it in to compare it
if it matches it is a good download

Looks like the hash is correct from https://web.archive.org/web/20150327142806/http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=1601&sid=162&lang=en

I do not think there will be a log file until it has finished, though there should be a wd folder. You have to recreate that thumb each time you boot from it. It does not require a big or fancy thumb drive for recreate, the middle step in the wizard. It should not take long, but you need to leave the thumb drive in and the pc connected while you do it

Hi again Gramps,

That’s good that hash looks ok.

Have taken USB back out of DX4K and file list here

There does not seem to be a WD folder only the WDRECOVER.

I thought just doing the recreate storage step it did not need to connect back to the PC I am using to create stick as I see when doing to perform recovery step it searches for the server…?

Thanks for your help.

wdrecovery is a wd folder :slight_smile:Do whatevery the screen on the PC says. If it says click finish and goes back to the start page, well I suppose you do not need the PC

This part is normally not an issue if you have a good download. Do you have a log file in wdrecovery?

No, there is no log in the wdrecovery folder.

Do I need to manually repartition the drives? I have seen some that remove all the drives and repartition them all.

The only time it is beneficial to do anything extra is we use diskpart to clean the drives (remove the pervious raid config) If we are changing say from Raid 5 (more than two drives) to Raid 1 (two drives) Recreate will actually run, it is the final step, recover that fails in this case.

Perhaps we need to explore why you are doing this to start with. Perhaps the box is just broken You are holding down the reset button when you power on with the thumb drive inserted. No usb hubs or other drives connected.

OK, Yes it does seem to go into recovery mode all ok but just then seems to to hang there.

was doing this as power was switch off while on and then rebuild did not seem to work. Machine has not really had a lot of use. I might try booting normally again and leaving for a few days.

Hi,

I appreciate the help, my responses may well be slow for a while as back at work and weekdays are rather busy here at home! Will keep trying to get the old best going again though!

Cheers.
