Have my WDTV Live connected via HDMI to my Philips 37’, network share: I can see my MKVs, the ones with AC-3 audio play fine, the ones with DTS don’t have sound (WDTV recognizes the DTS track though!). No stereo system, sound goes over hdmi to the tv and justs plays from that (stereo).
Any ideas? wdtv live supports dts decode I understand?
that worked, thank you so much. Finally I can use my wdtv as intended, with network and sound working:D
hy does this ‘Stereo’ make sense / what don’t I understand, aren’t I sending it digitally through hdmi? And would it support 5.1 like this or only 2.1?
I ask cause I the future I plan to perhaps get a small sound system, can I then send it via hdmi to my philips and from there via digital audio out to a digital audio in from a sound system.
DIGITAL does “Pass Through.” It just sends the raw DTS or AC3 signal to the downstream device. (For DTS, it sends the “Core.”) The downstream device must be able to decode this.
STEREO forces the WDTV to “downmix” the stream to 2-channel PCM, which your TV can decode.
But yes, it is still a digital signal, just a signal your TV can understand.
I have my WDTV connected via HDMI to a Pioneer AVR, and from the Pioneer to the LG TV via HDMI. The Pioneer decodes everything known to man.
