Hi All,
I have noticed in last few days that my HD’s are spinning while EX2 is in sleep mode.
Anyone else experiencing this issue.
Reboot does fix this problem but it always comes back the next day.
Thx
Dejan

I know this was an issue with the old firmware…I thought they had fixed it in one of the recent firmwares, since it was mentioned in the release notes of the firmware release. Please make sure you are running the latest firmware AND ARE ABSOLUTELY SURE that no one is accessing the data on it either from inside or outside the network. I went to listen to my EX2’s sound and was surprised to hear it spinning, since I hadn’t accessed it in over 12 hours. But then it hit me…one friend is reading-writing some files on it…and I verified that by looking at the SFTP log file.
You are correct I am not running latest firmware nor I will be any time soon untill they fix the bricking issue with 1.04.05.
As far as drive is being accessed by some one else it is not since you can see blue light fading in and out( standby mode).
I only know of a few people that had issues with the latest firmware. Most EX2 users, including me, had no issues with it.
If you are waiting that’s fine…but I have not seen any acknowledgement from WD of any known bug with the firmware (nor do I think there was - but I don’t know for sure). I believe some of the hardware were faulty that had issues during the auto-update. But if one did a manual update then they should be fine (I did a manual update - as I have been from the very beginning).
If you do the update manually via a wired connection you should have no problems.
When you say hard wired you mean PC/MAC-------Router--------EX2 or PC/MAC-----patch cable-----EX2?
I mean,
Both the EX2 and the PC/mac plugged in to the same router via Cat 5e cables. With nothing wireless, and both devices on the same network segment, download the firmware from WD to your PC/MAC. Then go to your EX2 User Interface and select the Manual firmware update option and follow the prompts. That is the safest way to do the firmware update.
Upgrade went smooth…
I’ll keep an eye on the spinning while a sleep issue.
Thanks for the help.
It appears that drive spinning issue has been fixed with the 1.04.05 update.
thx
