I had an issue I thought may be firmware related so this is what happened.
-
Bought box and put in place automatically upgraded firmware to the newest at 1.11.14
-
THought issue may be firmware related so I manually did a downgrade to 1.10.13 using this link - http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5860/~/how-to-roll-back-the-firmware-on-a-wd-tv-live-hub-media-center-or-wd-tv-live
And it rolled back like a champ.
- once I deterined it not to be a firmware issue I decided Iwanted to reupgrade to the latest and this is where i have hit a big stumbling block.
a) If I download uing the console it tells me there is a new firmware and the new version is 1.11.14 but then it tells me after the download to 100% progresses it says Update Device - New Firmware download failed due to incomplete firmware download. Please check your network connection and try again.
(I know its not network connection I can use check info and get data down, I can streeam through netflix, I can pla any movie just fine)
b) I then decided okay if it wants to misbehave I’ll manually put it all on a stick and upgrade it just like I downgraded. So I used this link http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/updates/?family=wdfWDTV_Live_G3 and I downloaded the file wdtvlivegen3_1.11.14.zip but then I get this when I try and extract the bin file - ! C:\Users\Itsme\Downloads\wdtvlivegen3_1.11.14.zip: CRC failed in wdtvlivegen3.bin. The file is corrupt.
So now i have 2 WD TV units with the latest firmware and I have one at an earlier that no matter the amount of power cycling I can not make this work either manually or automatically. ANy ideas? Anyone else getting this zip file with a corrupt bin file?
When upgrading from the net, make sure you delete ALL rollback files from the USB.
USB is completely blank the problem is I can’t even get a “non corrupt” unarchive of the zip when doing it over USB
Even unzipping hte file on my main HDD - Download to a folder - unzip to another folder gives me the corrupt error even before hitting the USB step. this is on 3 different PC’s so was wondering if something got corrupt in the companies staged firmware?
What are you using to extract the files? I just downloaded the ZIP from that link and there’s nothing wrong with it…
Ouch meant to hit reply and set this as the solution.
Downloaded file is wdtvlivegen3_1.11.14.zip and is 148,570 KB I have tried using 7zip and Winrar both say the same corrupt file and I have downloaded on 3 ways but unfortunately all the same sources so if the source is corrupt then this isn’t working for me.
-
Phone from http://download.wdc.com/wdtv/wdtvlivegen3_1.11.14.zip over the air data plan. Then copied from my SIM card to my PC.
-
Using I.E. 9.0 on 2 different PCs
-
Using Chrome on 3 PC’s - 2 on local Network one on a neighbors.
-
Using Firefox portable.

i have verified fie is not in use by any process and fully downloaded. Windows native unzipping was Error 0x80004005 unspecified error but was on the bin file. Winrar was the CRC failed even just doing the zip test without even doing the exptraction. when I do the extraction I get 4 of the 5 files but not the large bin. 7zip is the same thing as Winrar.
So I guess for it working at your house what was the criteria for it working where you are to be unzipped? Is the file size the same. I only see this firmware hosted at this one single site download.wdg.com wish they had alternate sites for me ot try and get it from in case its the source? When you say it is working for you your not using some prior download to yesterday are you? I am just wondering if at some point this did work but now is not. Because I WAs originall able ot upgrade all 3 to this firmware using the automatic firmware upgrade option in the device.
So when you say it works there can you please give me more information on HOW it works there? Whats the file size of the download of the zip file? What did you download with? What are you using to extract? What is the file locaiton you odwnloaded from?
I don’t suppose you know of a hosting site you can put your :good" version on and link it to me for me ot see if I can get from your site vrs the WDC site and see ifthat makes any difference?
The archive works fine (7-Zip 9.29). Whatever the problem is, it’s on your side.
Name: wdtvlivegen3_1.11.14.zip

CRC: DA800741

if its on my side then its on my side for EVERY device I have connection to and available at my disposal. I have done this through a work LAN I have done it through a phone on a work lan on an open lan and on a home lan as well as a neighbors lan. I have done it on 3 PC’s.
Again can I ask you to host this working download even on a media site for a day. I am pretty sure it may be a regional connection to the download.wdc.com site.
The only sembelance of getting it CLOSE to working was when I used my phone to download the file and then extracted it on my phone that gave me 4 files and no crc errors but when I then looked at the files connected to the phone I could not even see them when hooked up USB hosting and then I was able to FTP them across from the phone to a USB stick geting me 4 files on a USB stick (same one I used to downgrade and I had reformatted). But then when I stuck the stick in it did not give ne any options of a new firmware and it was still trying to grab from the internet. So I know that wasn’t going to help me out at all.
Like I am saying the totallity of the number of devices and the number of lans makes me think this is somehting regional with hitting downloads.wdc.com. Is there any way I can get what you have downloaded and hosted on an alternate site for me to try it once? Something like Filedropper would allow you to upload it right to there and will accept the file size and then you can post the link ot that. Maybe I can circumvent the part of the pipe cuasing problems if its not a direct problem with this file on download.wdc.com.
FYI I figured it out. It is a routing issue. I ended up calling my brother to do the download.
His tracert that works was 15 hops all through att devices and then a few ntt with the final server being an akamai.net server. The ones that are not working are tracerouting with only about 8 hops through bhn.net/rr.com servers.
Something in the pathing is corrupting the file just enough that the bin file in the zip does not like it.
I think you need to scan your systems for hijacks… RR.com is time warner cable. I don’t think they host WD files…
it’s bizarre that all of those different PCs are going there…
Its not a hack and its not my compputer as i mentioned it acted this way on multiple computers in fact one computer is one we just have sitting around doing nothing.
rr.com is roadrunnercable which is my ISP. Yo uare right they do not host the files what they do is route how the files get from the host to the desitination. So the difference in routes is what was causing the file to have the issues Hence why you were not seeing problems because you don’t use this ISP and my brother does not because he does not use it and y wifes work does not because she does not use that ISP either. It just so happened that rr.com is our ISP here, its my neighbors ISP I used, It was the open ISP and it was the where I work ISP.
My brother got it fine and hosted it for me to remote to his PC and do a file copy and this worked just fine. I also had my wife VPN into work and she was able todownload it on her PC just being VPNed in and using their route. So all this is basically telling me its not a computer/device issue and its not a downloads.wdc.com issue but its an issue somewhere in the routing between them me and not an issue in the routing betwen others. Needless to say this is now worked around. How long rr.com will have this problem is beyond me.
