Difference between two versions of 4TB My Cloud products

Can anyone tell me the difference between these two model versions.
WDMC4000GB
WDBCTL0040HWT
Is one an older model. I have to decide which to purchase.

Where are you getting those model numbers from? Its possible they are the same unit and the retailer is using different product codes to identify the My Cloud unit. Typically the way to distinguish the second gen v2.x My Cloud from the earlier first generation v4.x My Cloud was to look at the box’s or unit’s P/N number. Second gen P/N number ends in “-10” and the first gen ends in “-00”.

Use this link for more information, 1st generation has firmware 4.xx.xx, 2nd has 2.xx.xx. User Manuals will tell you more about each one. See FAQ’s and scroll down to see Model No. and Capacity.

Thanks all for the replies. The first number came from Officeworks in Australia and the second number came from the WD website. I will ring Officeworks tomorrow and check what the actual model no. is on the box. Bennor is probably correct in that the first no. (WDMC4000GB) is the retailer’s own product code.
