How can I tell the date of production of either an Elements or My Book drive? I’ve heard substantiated stories of these drives failing within a very short period of time after purchase (either directly from WD or through Amazon) and WD failing to honor the drive under the terms of the warranty agreement saying to the purchaser “This drive was manufactured three years ago and so falls outside the scope of the warranty period.”
Western Digital always consider the warranty of devices, starts from the date of purchase of device and you can replace drives within the warranty period. However, you can check the warranty status of WD hard drives from below link:
