Deleting original files

I think this might be a dumb question, but I have to make sure first.  I have a new 1TB Passport and am using the WD backup utility on my Mac.  Once done, can I delete files from my computer I want saved on the Passport?  Or since it’s a backup, will it also delete those files from the Passport?

Thanks

You can delete the files, but the minute you do that it’s no longer consider a backup. Backup means having the files in to places, if something happens with one or the other than your covered, if something happens to the drive than your screwed and have to pay for data recovery.

The backup software will not delete any files since that will be synchronization and not backup.

As previously noted, you may erase the files from your computer once copied with WD Smartware into your WD External Hard Disk Drive, however, by doing so your data is still at risk if you don’t keep an additional copy on a different location.

Regards,

People, you have to get this concept: a backup automatically implies that you have the data in two separate  locations.  I’m telling you, the first time you lose all your data because you don’t believe that, you will change your tune.  now, everytime I see an external drive on sale for cheap, I grab one, and I throw data on it.  because of that, I’ve not lost any data.  and I don’t get angry if a drive dies.  I just rma it.

sorry. rant over.
