Custom SMTP server

Hi
We’ve just purchased a new WD My Cloud EX2 Ultra. While setting it up I am missing a setting to specify a custom SMTP server IP because there will be no internet connection on the subnet the drive will be sitting in.
Now, I’ve done this before on a WD My Book Live by modifying the smtp.comf file while connected via SSH, but here it is simply resetting this file every time I reboot and for some reason (permissions probably) I cannot change the file under /usr/local/modules/etc/smtp.conf.
I’ve also read from other users that this is a common thing missing, but in no post there was an adequate solution provided.
Is there any setting where I can specify the custom SMTP server? I mean this is a basic and very useful and neccesary feature. Because this product is designed to store backups in a secure place and it cannot be that I need to give a secure backup internet access just to get proper notifications…

Thanks for hlep

Hello,

I haven’t experienced the situation you are having, Lets see if another user has had this issue and can share some experience with us.

What do you mean you “haven’t experienced the situation” in this posting? If you “haven’t experienced the situation”, how did you set you custom SMTP Server then? If you have not even attempted to do this, why would you even have replied to this posting? Did you read the original posting? I to am having this same issue, and it is incredible that a NAS would even be sold that would not allow this. This NAS is sitting well inside our network protected from any public internet access.

Hello

Because we have a pretty good firewall I ended up allowing the IP of the NAS to only connect to “notify.senvid.net” and only on port 58705. This way it was more or less ok for me.
But I agree with you, it is a very basic and mandatory feature that on the other hand would also be extreemly easy to implement.
But who knows, maybe WD uses that remote server and port to send themselfeves more data we do not know of  :mask:
