Connect My Book Live direct to PC following security breach

Following the email warning today about the disconnecting My Book Live from the internet I am going to take the option suggested by WD to connect drive directly to my computer as my data is still intact and I haven’t really made much use of the network facility for a few years now.

Reading the instructions given by WD it says…

“The computer and the My Book Live must be configured for DHCP”

Also “if no Ethernet port use a USB to Ethernet Adapter”, my desktop PC has only one Ethernet port which is used to connect to router so assume I need an adapter.

Should I use an USB 3 adapter rather than USB2 as my PC has USB 3 ports?

I also now need a short Ethernet extension as existing cable not long enough to reach PC…

Feel a bit pissed off as got to now buy this stuff and no longer have internet access to my files all through no fault of my own…

Has anyone already done this and is there any other info I might need?

Hi @Richchad,
I would suggest you to please disable cloud access, and at this time, we recommend you disconnect your My Book Live from the Internet to protect your data on the device. Our engineering teams are actively investigating this issue.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
