Completed setup on my iPhone, now i need to install on my PC. The setup software no longer sees my MyCloud. How do I skip the first part of setup ad install the software?
Correct, your My Cloud is(!) setup and functional. The My Cloud appears within your network environment and you can access the dashboard via its IP address or hostname.
Ok, I can see the device folders. But there is nothing there.
Don’t I need to install something on my PC to do backups?
You don’t actually need any WD software to use the MyCloud local to your network.
You can map the drives into your file system, and access it just like any directly-connected HDD. This is a much better way of accessing than using the WD Desktop App; only use this for remote access.
Download and read the User Manual (get the one that matches your hardware/firmware: not clearly indicated on the following page…)
Can you get them to sort out the User Manual page:
http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/?id=439&type=25
The banner at the top says it’s for v2.x firmware, but, actually, v2.x and v4.x manuals are available, hence the two entries per language. Just that they’re not identified as such.
It’s bad enough that WD did a ‘silent product update’, and are running two sets of firmware, without confusing the Customer with poorly-implemented support pages.
Add a section to help the user identify which device they have, and then CLEARLY identify which manual they will need.
How do I tell what my firmware version is?
On the Home page of the Dashboard.
You see, @Joerg_A? This is the mess that customers are left in…
Ok, I downloaded the user manual, guessing that my firmware was the lower version.
That told me how to connect via the IP address. From there it told me the firmware version, 2.something.
The manual also told me how to install the Smartware(?) program.
Windows backup will not let me do an image backup to a network drive.
Your software will only backup user data. I need to backup my entire PC before I upgrade to Windows 10.
That’s the main reason I bought this thing. Then I was going to do the same thing for my dad’s PC this weekend.
So how do I do this?
If you are on Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate , the Backup in Windows will allow you to backup your PC to your NAS.

Windows 7 Home won’t let me.
That’s not Pro or Ultimate, is it…?
So, you’ll be needing a Windows system backup tool.

If all you wanted to do was backup Windows system before upgrading to Windows 10, then the MyCloud may have been the wrong thing. A USB HDD or Flash drive may have been better.
There are various free backup programs that you can install to Windows 7 to backup to an NAS drive like the My Cloud. Here are several free programs.
EaseUS Todo Backup Free: http://www.easeus.com/
Macrium Reflect Free: http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx
Paragon Backup and Recovery 14 Free: http://www.paragon-software.com/home/br-free/download.html
I use Macrium Reflect Workstation and I really like it. The Free Version also works awesomely. I would check out the link Bennor was kindly to supply and see what you think.
