Can't clone drive because of different logical sector sizes

I bought a My Book 3TB unit primarily to make complete back-ups of my 500 Gb desktop drive and also to clone it in case of breakdown. Using the Acronis WD edition, I was able to make a complete backup of my disk. But when I tried to clone the drive, it gave me a message that I could not use the My Book to perform this because of different logical sector sizes of the My Book and the desktop HD.  This defeats the whole purpose of buying the unit and is very frustrating. Is there any way around this? Would another cloning software work?

I am not even familiar with this aspect of hard drives. I have a Windows Vista 64 OS. Thanks in advance for any help.

Did you try making an Image of your system? You can use that to restore your system.

Thank you for your reply. I’m not too familiar with creating an image and there is  not too much info on it in the Acronis manual. Opened the program and found “Image Mounting” under Tools and Utilities. This seems to allow me to mount an image of the previous backup I created. Is this the correct procedure?

What is the difference between the original disc backup and the Image Mount? Will this allow restoring the original disc along with all installed programs?  How would I do the restore using the Image in Acronis?

Sorry if too many questions, I’m a bit of a beginner in this area.  Thanks again.

I don’t know what version you are using, I’m still using True Image 2010 so I’m not familiar with the new version. Have you tried looking on the Acronis forum? It’s a very good forum with really knowledgable posters there. See if this helps  http://www.whatsabyte.com/P1/Acronis_image.htm?act=all
