Really frustrated with mine and my wife’s Android my cloud app at the moment.
We both got new phones recently (Samsung S8’s) and on downloading the My Cloud app and logging on all we get now is ‘drive offline, local data still available, code 971’.
Initially, on my phone, I logged in via my WD MyCloud login password and it worked just fine, new photos were auto downloaded via wifi as usual. However, since trying to log in on my wife’s phone, all we get is this code and no access on either phone.
I’ve tried logging us both in with our respective passwords and by using the automated code via the desktop My Cloud interface but it doesn’t make a difference.
All the settings are exactly the same as they were before and I’ve tried rebooting and turning off the My Cloud hard drive but still the same.
I can still access the hard drive via my laptop (wifi) and by logging in via the desktop site on our phones (wifi) so I’m really struggling to find a solution.
I’m not particularly clued up on home networking but it used to work just fine, i hope someone here will be able to help us with this.
I would try turning cloud access off and back on again; MyCloud gets a bit confused if your router resets and is given a new global IP address by your ISP. Toggling cloud access re-establishes the connection.
Yes thank you! This seems to have worked! I turned off my router and My Cloud, turned the router back on before leaving it some time before starting up the my cloud again. I toggled off the cloud access and turned it back on later and then reinstalled the app onto both of our phones. Currently both phones are showing notification of new files uploading and we both have access to the My Cloud via our app.
A simple fix but thank you nonetheless, it’s been really annoying me!
Indeed. I must admit, the access to the drive when away is very slow. Most likely due to our poor speeds (max 15gig). It does say me towards using Google drive or similar but i just don’t want to pay the fees when this is free.
That’s most likely due to your uplink rate at home; I’m assuming you have an ADSL connection, where the asymmetry is in the up/down link rates, based on the assumption that you will be downloading more data than you upload. I get 12Mb/s downlink and 1Mb/s uplink, which is obviously capped by some SLA function (service level agreement).
Then there’s the mobile data downlink rate at the receiving end; depending on circumstances, this could also be a bottleneck.
If you mean 15Gb/s, that would be very, very high… Even good fibre is only about a Gb/s… And fibre-to-the door is still fairly unusual, unless you’re in Singapore or South Korea.
