I got a 1 TB WD My Passport Ultra about a month ago. It had been fine, until a few days ago. It started to randomly eject itself when in use, despite no movements etc being made. Then now it is not visible when I plug it into my Mac. I use a Mac OSX.
When plugged in nothing is recognised, then after about 15 minutes a message pops up to say the disk is not recognised would the user like to initialise, ignore, or cancel. When clicking initialise the disk utility appears. It sometimes shows up here, sometimes it doesnt. But even when it does show up you are not able to repair the disk, verify it, or restore it.
I do not use Smartware, but it is installled on my Mac. When I log on to Smartware the disk does not appear there either.
No but I don’t think the cable wire is the problem, as the light comes up on the hard drive and it sounds/feels like it is connected as it heats and makes noise to show so, however, the light does not flash as it used to. So I do not think it is the cable…
I have the same issue. When plugged in, the hard drive “runs”, but is not recognized on the “my computer” screen. When I go to “Devices and Printers” on the control panel, it shows that the hard drive is there, but I cannot access it. Help! This drive is not only my back-up to my laptop C drive, but it also contains information and documents I have nowhere else. I have had two experienced professionals look at this issue, and they were not able to access it either. Any other suggestions? I know it is not completely “dead”, yet cannot access my files.
I have tried several different cables, including a brand new one, as I bought a new 2 TB Passport Ultra, hoping to transfer the files from the inaccessible drive, should I be able to access it.
