I can connect my digital camera to the MyPassport Wireless Pro (FW 1.01.11). It’s discovered like other USB devices, i.e. disks and memory sticks and I can transfer the files by the usual means. It will even name the copied folder to include a reference that it was copied form a camera (the name it uses for this folder is obviously assembled in MyPassport Wireless Pro, as the plain name of the camera is a different one).
Reading the manual http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/UM/ENG/4779-705151.pdf page 31, I get the impression that the navigation bar should contain an additional entry “Backup” in case it detects a connected camera. But this doesn’t show up for me.
Was it removed in the latest 1.01.11 firmware?
Does it show up for others, i.e. it doesn’t judge my camera as a camera (despite the copied folder gets a name referring to it)?
The best solution for camera’s is to use import the files directly from the SD Card instead of USB connection between the camera and My Passport Wireless Pro
For copying/moving RAW files from a CF card, plug a CF card reader into the USB 2.0 port (right next to the battery/SD button on the top of the My Passport Wireless Pro). Press and hold the battery/SD button to start the offload.
I am not certain these directions are correct. I did a test run and put a CF card into my new Pixel Flash Reader. Plugged the PF Reader into the USB 2.0 port on the WD My Passport Wireless Pro as directed above and then pushed and held the SD button. Instead of getting the raw images from the compact flash in the PF reader I got ALL the images that were on my iPad sent to the new folder on the WD My Passport BUT none of the test raw images.
Instead what I had to do was to use the app to open the PF Reader (the app sees it as another “drive”) go to the DCIM folder where the few Raw test images were and Copy them to the new folder I created on the WD MPWPro. I was only shown a ? when I went to look at the contents but that is because the app cannot view RAW files from what I read. I next plugged the WD MPWPro into my computer and sure enough the test RAW images were in the new folder and they were intact. It is a little disconcerting not knowing if the images are intact ahead of time but since this is a backup system I’m going to have to apply a little faith unless someone can tell me how to determine if the copy was fine. If I did something wrong or more complicated please advise.
