When I buy a new PC, I enjoy buying a new hi-tech HDD for it–these days that would include mind-blowing features like the triple actuator, helium purge and densities of half a million TPI… To me it seems that many retailers now only sell new old stock or ‘renewed’ drives. I dislike the SSD and will always choose a mechanical HDD.
Is it true that the 2.5" HDD has ceased production for internal laptop use–and premium 3.5" production is not targeted to personal PC users like me?
Thanks for helping me understand if the scene has radically changed… Mike
I am not sure about the marketing goals of WD but I can say that the 24TB SATA is a great drive!

Is it a 24 TB Ultrastar, a Red or Gold? I think we might thank HGST for most of the current WD range? They’re technically incredible drives! Are you running it in a home system?
24TB hard disks are fine for desktop use as CMR or SMR for a single disk is fine. SMR disks do not work well in a NAS situation.
