Hello,
I bought yesterday a WD Book Live 1To. Once at home, I try to setup the NAS: power cable and network cable are connected, WDBL is booting:
Font side: led is blue, then yellow and then red.
Back side: yellow light and blinking green then no light at all when front led becomes yellow.
When I look at the log file, I don’t see any dhcp request. And dhcpdump show no traffic for this unit.
I tried with 3 different network cables. (the one provided and two others).
So, this morning I went back to the shop for an exchange.
Now I have the same model and the same problem: no network connection.
What am I doing wrong ?
Regards,
Copainjack
Since it has happened with two drives in a row, it looks like your connection between the drive and your router/hub is not good.
The red light on the MBL can mean a few things, and “no network connection” is one of them.
Try plugging the network cable directly from your computer into the NAS, without anything in between them. Then reboot them both (just to force them to get IP addresses again). See if that will let you see the drive, or at least get rid of the red LED.
Thanks Chaos for the tips, it works… and after further reading i fund the solution: upgrade your hardware and use a full duplex switch, copainjack! (it’s silly that this device doesn’t work with half duplex switch, i don’t care about speed, all i want is storage. And there is no note about this limitation.)
Glad it works… I agree with you that it should be documented. I believe that the drive will not work on a port that is set to 100mbps either, it has to be auto-sensing.
