Blank WDMyCloud icon in windows explorer (Network in Win 7)

Before My Cloud I had a MBL. At some point me and other guys in the forum had issues after installing windows update related to MBL. The solution that was given in the community forum was to enable

PnP-x IP Bus Enumerator

Media Center Extender

services, double click the icon of MBL in Network window (in Windows Explorer on the left), install the device and then check windows update. So we did. After that we disabled the above services and we had some nice icons for the MBL (one for Media Device and one for Storage).

So, when I received My Cloud, I did the same (enable services, update, disable), I got a really nice icon for the media device (Twonky), but for storage I have a white icon. Not sure if anyone did the same and has the same issue, but I am trying to find solution to this. I am adding an image to know exactly what I mean with the blank WDMyCloud icon. Any help is appreciated.

Hi there,

Have you tried checking windows updates to see if there is any drivers pending for  the drive ? Sometimes the drivers for the device are not updated and this is why it does no show the icon correctly, also try to right click on the unit and see if there is a option to install the device as well.

Seems like this is the behaviour with the drivers in Windows. Both my PCs, one with Windows 7 and one with Windows 8.1 show the exact same icons (well, in once case they don’t show anything). The only difference was Win7 downloaded the updated drivers through Windows Update, in the 8.1 case they were already there.
