Anyone successfully using a multi-drive USB enclosure with EX2 ultra?

I posted earlier about the inability of my new EX2 ultra to see and share more than one drive in a multi-drive enclosure, and since there seems to be no response, thought I might be able to find out if anyone is using a multi-drive USB3 box plugged into the usb of their EX2 ultra for sharing (successfully). My firmware is the latest 5.15.106, and each drive is non-RAID NTFS-formatted, all separately visible and accessible when plugged into a Windows machine.

If you are doing so and it works, what type of enclosure is working for you, and is your firmware the latest, or are you still using an older version? Trying to figure out if I should keep the EX2…while I realize I can house all the drives individually and plug them in to a hub, the single box is a much nicer setup, rather than 5 power supplies and 5 separate enclosures.

Oddly, the 5-drive box works fine with my 2 older My Clouds, so if it (or a different enclosure) is not going to work with the EX2, I may just send it back and just use the older My Clouds. Thanks in advance for any info you have.

Hi @Flyinby,

This is to inform you that the drive Ex2 ultra it self is an enclosure.

We have tested our NAS devices, when it is directly connected to router through ethernet cable. So we will not suggest you to house all the drives individually and plug them in to a hub.

The NAS IS connected via ethernet cable. But there are 2 USB ports on the device that are supposed to be used for external USB drives so you can also access them over your network. This is documented in the instructions. Why would you suggest that I not use these ports? Or was the “not” a typo and you mean you’re suggesting that I connect each external drive individually using a USB hub, rather than use the multi drive enclosure?

This still does not explain why both of my WD My Cloud older models will see and share all 5 drives in the housing, and the EX2 ultra only sees one of the drives. I was asking if anyone was using a multi drive enclosure plugged into the USB port on the EX2 that successfully shared all of the hard drives in that enclosure.

WD’s documentation says that you can connect up to (7 or 8, not sure which) external drives to a USB hub plugged into the NAS, and they will be shown as shares. I was hoping that instead of having 5 separate drive housings with 5 separate power supplies, I could use the multi-drive housing (non-RAID, each drive formatted NTFS and separate) on the EX2 (since it works on the other WD My Clouds).
