After renew IP

Cloud works through port forwarding. External dynamic ip. Several times a week, router change ip, resulting in the loss of the connection to the my cloud.

Apparently the cloud does not track current ip and does not update the data on it on servers wd.

Mean access to the cloud of the Internet.

On any type of server a static IP is better and avoids these issues. Be sure it is outside of the DHCP pool on the router

I understand everything. it would be nice and convenient if the cloud itself tracked change ip

I am sure the mycloud knows its IP address. It is everything else finding it.

At least in Windows home networking name resolution has never been very reliable.

DHCP is fine for workstations and for initial configuration of other devices.

@Smackit,

I need more details.

If your ISP IP changes again and you faced the same issue, or you’re fully aware of the situation below:

  1. Are you still able to log into http://wdmycloud ?

  2. If above #1 is yes, are you still able to add new cloud access to a new user?

  3. If above #1 is yes, can you still ssh using i.e. putty (ssh root@wdmycloud - enable ssh from the Dashboard prior) into the mycloud and perform ping www.wd2go.com within the terminal?

Access to resources WD is. But with the wd2go website also access to the device lost when changing IP’s. In the cloud to add and I can change everything you need. Item #3 will try to make a little later. Just wanted to add that in the case of detecting loss of access to the cloud from the Internet I reload the cloud or change the settings, click “access to the cloud from the outside” from on to off and back. Then access appears. You want to say, tracking IP is implemented in the cloud and should work?!

I also have the same problem as this and there doesn’t seem to be a fix.

My broadband connection often (once every couple of days) disconnects and then reconnects on a new IP provided by the service provider.

As soon as this happens remote access to the My Cloud is lost (all remote access works perfectly until the External IP address changes).

The only way I’ve found to fix this is the remote connect to another PC in my house and access the My Cloud admin portal to either switch remote access off and back on, or to re-boot the device. Neither is ideal.

Is there any possibility of a heartbeet type capability for the device to recognise the external IP address change and reset the connection to the WD2GO service?

I’ve seen this reported in the older firmware before, seems it still exists?

I’m not sure of the bug or encountered it before because my pubic ip seldom changes, for few months now.

I just took a look at how it works, and may be I could put a quick fix to it for those whos ip changes frequently until WD comes up with a fix.

For those who’s still having this issue, please open a ticket directly to WD Support.

And I need someone who’s frequently having this issue to test the fix, please PM me.

We have passed along this information to support.

Regards,

How do we fix this? My ISP provider fequently locks up my router requiring it to be reset. Along with router.

This i believe has caused a issue with the remote access to my cloud. Please help to indicate a fix for this please. Thanks!

Hi Cobblers,

I’ve sent you a PM. If it works, I’ll share them with the rest.

So its a month on since this last post, my problem still exists. I was hopefull when the last firmware update was released as it mentioned fixing remote access issues. Unfortunately re-establishing connection to the WD2GO service after a change to an externally facing IP address (as most home routers will do if their line is reset or if they reboot as most ISP’s do not provide fixed IP’s) was not one of the fixes.

I have sent WD Support a number of traces and have run the tests they asked, however, the focus was always on finding an issue on my local lan, not in relation to the changing external IP. I have not heard back from them in nearly a month, but no suggestions on how to fix this problem were made.

Is anyone in connection to WD or knows their products able to say if the WD MyCloud does have any code in it which checks the external IP and the connection to WD2GO periodically? or are the connection settings back to my router only set up when the WD MyCloud initialises or has Remote Access switch off and back on?

Thanks
