A bit of a Plex rant

I use Plex purely because it was an optional add in app for my WD PR4100 server when I bought a few years ago to replace an old WHS box. It seemed great at storing and playing all kinds of media to anywhere on my network. I was very happy with it for years.
Then it starting getting bloated and becoming something other than a way to just store and stream my media. I dont care what is trending on Apple TV, or for any of their recommedations. Okay, I can igore all the other stuff so its not a big deal.
This year though it has become unglued. To start with we can no longer play or stream music from Plex player. No, we have to use another app, Plexamp to do that.
However, Plexamp will not cast to any device that runs Cast 2.0. Like anything by Cambridge Audio or Sonos. So its Chromecast feature is broken there.
I can enable DNLA in the Plex server settings though and then use another app on phone or tablet to play, and cast to my stereo rig. So uninstalled Plexamp.
Now I have found that although I can play videos from the server on my iPad, it will not cast. TV is an old Panasonic Viera with 2nd gen Chromecast puck. So, Chromecast fubar there also. Although it will cast from my Pixel phone. Both Plex app versions are the same number, ie latest.
If WD had any real interest in their server product they might make a different media server available for it. Such as Jellyfin. I would dump Plex right away.
