7.200 RPM NAS Drive Support

Does the WD My Cloud EX4, support the new HGST (a Western Digital Company) HDD NAS Drives ?

HDD HGST HDN726050ALE614 DESKSTAR NAS 5TB SATA3 Variety ?

Also I am interested in setting up 4 such NAS HDD’s in a RAID Configuration. Will I encounter problems ?

Thanks.

Hello,

That specific model number is not in the list of supported drives for the EX4.

As a recommendation, contact WD Support to see if they have an updated list of supported drives.

Hi.

Thank for your Reply.

For some strange reason my Serial Number is not recognised by WD Contact Support Web Page and thus I can not establish a connection with them.

Yes I know that these NAS HDD are not included in the List.

Though new NAS HDD are coming out every day…so there should be a list kept up to date day after day.

Can I simply e-mail them? Because their online systems for contacting support are super - duper stupid.

Thanks for your time

HDD HGST HDN726050ALE614 DESKSTAR NAS 5TB SATA3 after extensive testing…these HDD NAS Drives are NOT Compatible with WD MyCloud EX4.

The red status LED lights flash constantly…RAID 1 is very - very slow.

Drives never stop spinning even when IDLE

CPU usage always 100% and RAM 88% on just 2 disks.

I formatted everything…and I use JBOD.

In JBOD Mode, everything works super fine and I do internal Back-Ups scheduled everyday at 6 AM from one Drive to another for redundancy.

Now you know.

Since changing to JBOD and loosing ALL THE DATA…CPU & RAM is just 25% , the Unit is cool and very - very fast.

Drives go to sleep when no file transfers take place.

WD Support was completely UN - ABLE to help me. And I had to figure everything out myself.

If you want a job properly done …you know what to do.
