4TB My Cloud EX2 Ultra 7 - SMB Protocol

Hi All,

Sorry for the noob question. i am looking to upgrade from a My Cloud Home to a 4TB My Cloud EX2 Ultra and I have a question. In order to access the Public share for the My Cloud Home in Windows 10 File Explorer (under Network) you had to activate the SMB protocol. I understand that this is a legacy application and may be phased out. Does the My Cloud EX2 Ultra require SMB as well? Or does it connect to the network in a different manner? Thanks!

Steven

Yes it does - connection is basically the same under OS3. you need to turn on SMB1 in Windows. No idea what happens when you go to OS5.

Thanks for the info. For some reason, the SMB v.1 protocol does not seem to be working on my PC (the network share does not appear). Happily, I can just map the drive and access it fine. Thanks!

Mapping works fine. There are a couple other things you nee to change in windows to get it to show up in network explorer but I forget exactly what they are. Search on this forum, it’s been discussed numerous times.

Will do. The funny thing is, on my My Cloud Home I enabled SMBv.1 and it showed up fine. Then, it just stopped showing up. I have an old PC, so perhaps a Windows update messed something up. Thanks again. -Steven
