Trying to reset an EX4 to factory but the 40-second reset won’t work.
the 4 second reset does seem to work as the device says rebooting on the screen, but this was setup by someone else and they haven’t used the admin username, so trying to reset a password to an account name i don’t know is pointless.
when i attempt the 40 second reset the display lights up for maybe 2-3 seconds, i can hear a fan, the power light flashes then it all turns off, i keep holding and nothing. ive tried 40-50-60 seconds and 2 minutes and nothing.
is there any other way to do a reset.
Hmm. Well, the user manual says the ordinary reset "restores settings such as the administrator user name and password … so when you do that it’s still not resetting?
So when you try the 40-second, you are pressing the button BEFORE you plug it in, right?
The KB articles says that it should reboot AFTER you release the button.
4 second reset reboots it, but using admin and no password i still get wrong username and password.
and no, after letting go of reset button on the 40 second reset it just stays off.
ok, well i did a firmware update via wdmycloud and it reset it all to factory.
i think i got lucky.
this info may help others as i found nothing around except lots of ppl with a similar issue.
Did you happen to catch what version it had been running? There’s some vague references to something sort of related in an OLD release note:
“Resolved issue when renaming admin account, the unit would ask for user credentials that were never set up.”
But that was fixed in a release 3.5 years ago.
