2 TB My Book Not Showing Up :-(

Hello community friends,

I have a serious problem with My Book 2TB - it is not showing up anymore :frowning:

I tried it on Ubuntu, Centos and Windows 7, but nothing. It is simply not recognized in any OS. It started yesterday, after a little fall - and I mean really little, it tilted to the side after my elbow touched it. After that, it started making strange noises (like when a hard drive is about to die…) - but it was still recognized. So I quickly tried to copy all the files, left it copying during the night - but when I woke up, the disk had stopped copying, was no longer recognized. I rebooted the PC several times, removed the My Book from power and plugged in again, tried in different PCs - still nothing.

Is all my 2 TB of data gone?? Any suggestions on how I can try to save it and recover the data?

Should I take this to a shop specialized in recovering hard drives?

I don’t know what to do, really sad about it, appreciate any help and suggestions!

It doesn’t take much of a bump to damage one of these drives. I lay mine down flat. If it doesn’t show in Disk Management it’s probably physically damaged and beyond do yourself fixes.

Thanks Joe_S - do you think it is worth it taking it to a data recovery shop?

Also - all external drives are that sensitive to bumps? Makes me wonder :frowning:

it depends how valuable your data is. Professional data recoveryis expensive.
