0xC00D3E85 Errors when copying files to My Passport Ultra drive (1TB)

I’m trying to copy files from internal hard drive to WD My Passport Ultra 1TB drive. If a try and copy a group of files I get apparently random files failing to copy with a “0xC00D3E85 : The request is invalid because Shutdown() is called” error box displayed. If I hit retry it will suceed.

Any ideas what may be wrong?

Drive is brand new, chkdsk reveals no errors. Running Windows 8.1

It could be that one of the files might be corrupted.
