Here is a guide on how to setup rsync daemon on mycloud gen2 device. To run rsync daemon you will need a configuration file and a secret file (for password storage). As far as I can tell, if you run rsync in daemon mode on the gen2, and then forward the appropriate ports, you can have secure remote sync without any of WD’s software whatsoever.
