Would like My Book Studio to give it a rest sometimes!

I have just got a My Book Studio for my IMac (I am a Photographer) and I am using Time Machine to back up which works brilliantly.

With my last hard drive (Iomega) it had an off switch as when things are quiet between jobs I would eject the drive and switch it off. I don’t need hourly back ups and spin ups when all I am doing is browsing the web. Is there any way of easily taking a break with the WD drive in this way…as there is no off/sleep switch.

I have just ejected it, but now I don’t know a way of getting it back online without switching it off and on again at the plug which is a pain. It’s not a major issue but I just don’t need it running all the time and I like things quiet!

Thanks in advance

Hello,

This drive does not have a on/off feature. The only way to do what you mention is to eject it and unplugging it.

You can post this in the Ideas section or do a search to find it is has been posted and just vote on it.

The drive should go to sleep after 30 minutes if there is no writing or reading. You can also use the WD drive Ultility app to set the drive sleep timer from 30 minutes to 1 minute. This way if your iMac need to do a backup it can wakeup the drive. Hope that help.
