I am receiving a daily message indicating that Wordpress has an update.
“Event description:WordPress app has update available. Please update.”
However, when I try to update WordPress in its control panel, I receive the error below, indicating that my PHP is outdated.
"An updated version of WordPress is available. You cannot update because WordPress 5.2.1 requires PHP version 5.6.20 or higher. You are running version 5.4.45."
Is it advisable to update PHP on my own or wait for WD’s next firmware update?
Same here. Those versions of PhP and Wordpress are full of security flaws, I can’t afford to give my sites public access because of this. And I guess it is the same situation with Joomla…
I just bought it, but until I can update PhP, the NAS is unusable for me.
“You cannot update because WordPress 5.3.2 requires PHP version 5.6.20 or higher. You are running version 5.4.45”
I should set that up for a studying project, but with that lack of security I should probably consider change to a synology. As I heard they are much faster than WD with providing updates with content…
Were any of you ever able to find a solve for this issue? This isn’t allowing me upgrade WordPress, which isn’t allowing me to install almost any plug-in, since they all require a newer version of WordPress.
I have WD My Cloud Mirror and I was pretty excited when I saw that I could install WordPress on it. I got it up and running only to get the following message when trying to update to the latest version of WP… “You cannot update because WordPress 5.4.1 requires PHP version 5.6.20 or higher. You are running version 5.4.45.” Hard to believe that we’re stuck on version 5.4.45 when PHP version 7.4.5 is the latest.
Got two My Cloud devices, Gen. 2 Mirror and EX2 Ultra. Both of them running PHP 5.4.45, which is absurd now that we should be adopting best practice and be running on 7.3 - 7.4.
The very fact that WD has flaws/backdoors in their NAS products shows a clear disregard for their consumers.
If we had the option of using apt-get over SSH we would be able to self-manage and update the PHP version ourselves. If I make any headway, I’ll post it here.
In the interim, I’d urge everyone to give WD a bit of grief for not updating PHP and the security ramifications of not doing so for its users and what this will mean for their reputation.
EDIT
Ticket raised with WD - 200513-000533 Feel free to jump on it and put some pressure on them.
Ticket has been opened but no response - not surprising to be honest.
If I can carve out some time, I’ll see if it’s possible to remove the PHP, add in a new version and refresh it on the OS. But not looked into that yet.
Seems like I had instruction on how to access the command line linux prompt a long time ago but I have forgotten… If it was like a normal Linux box it wouldn’t be an issue I assume but I am told they use a “special” version lol
Appreciate the response - hope to hear good news from you soon. I just installed WordPress to do some testing and got hit with this issue
Had the following update - sounds like a fob-off to me:
