Are there any reference papers for options to use the 2 Gigabit ports on the EX4? I have 2 L2 switches and was wondering if it can be used to provide switch resiliancy or whether it is used to provide port resiliancy. I am new to link aggregation so any pointers to reference material I can use to learn is appreciated
I just earlier this weekend setup my imac & EX4 w/ a LACP compatabile switch to 802.3ad channel bonding LACP. Seems t o work well but no real speed inprovement RAID 5 parity seems to be the bottleneck.
Thanks,
I spent a while researching link aggregation and it seems appropriate for port failover situations and increasing throughput through switches. I was looking to see if I could use it to deal with the use case of a switch failure and this protocol is not appropriate for that. Bummer.
Active Backup mode should accomplish switch redundancy as long as both switches are in the same broadcast domain. The other modes are either going to require switches that support some form of MC-LAG, or some other technology like Cisco VSS, VPC, etc.
Active / backup is done extensively in my enterprise datacenters… Just not with WD products, so I can’t speak first hand.
I am doing LACP on my EX4 and it’s working perfectly.
