I just purchased the WD MyCloud 8TB and it blinks with the strobe light indicating some power issue. When I look at the adapter it’s an 18W/12V Ktec adapter with the + anode in the middle of the plug. Is that the right one or did the seller switch it out?
I’m asking because the product was sold refurbished and I can see in the history that the previous buyer also had a power issue.
That’s the correct brand of adapter.
WD use KTEC Branded Power Supplies. (i have several of them)
But, double-check that it is … 12 Volts / 3 Amps / 36 Watts
If it’s only 1.5 Amps then that’s not enough … (will be fine for smaller hdd’s 2TB, 4TB but not an 8TB)
Need more info … what color is the light ?

Thank you for helping out. It’s a white strobing light and the adapter is only 1.5 Amps (18W).
That’s the wrong power adapter … stop using the 8TB My Cloud immediately you could damage it using a underrated power supply !
Using a 1.5 Amps PSU on a device requiring 3 Amps will cause overheating and is a potential fire hazard.
That is the reason for the white strobing light … it’s not getting enough current to power on.
Contact the Seller for a replacement … for the Correct Power Supply
The 8TB My Cloud Home as per the WD Power Supply list above requires 3 Amps
also looking at a 8TB My Cloud EX2 … it also uses 3 Amps
I sent it back yesterday with a note that the adapter was wrong. I assume I’ll either get a new adapter or a whole new disk if something’s broken.
I’m in Denmark so there’s a 14 day “I don’t feel like buying this anyways” return right and two year guarantee on all online purchases, so I think I’ll be fine.
Knowing what the problem was is a big help though. Thank you for that!
