I have searched continuously through this forum for an answer to this. I can find questions about why it never sleeps and questions about how to stop it, but nothing that tells me what it actually does. Does anyone actually know? Looking through some files I can guess that miocrawler is transcoding pictures. Mediacrawler is similarly doing “something” in the Public share. What?
Any information would be appreciated.
Really? No-one on this forum can answer this? If this simple question can’t be answered is this forum of any use?

No, we all know the answer. We’re just ignoring you. ;)
If this simple question can’t be answered is this forum of any use?
Of COURSE it’s of use, given the thousands of threads and solutions to problems posted.
Shouldn’t you instead just infer that perhaps no one knows?
If that’s your only concern, then yeah, I guess this forum is, indeed of no use – to you. :)
Hmm, I dont think that’s a very nice or helpful response. And most of the numerous other threads I’ve looked at have no useful answers in them either.
If I knew what it was doing I could decide whether to stop it. At which point my MBL might, just might go to sleep. It hasn’t done so yet in the 9 months I’ve had it.
If no-one here can answer what I thought was a very simple question, then by inference no-one actually knows very much about the internals of the MBL. If so, how can this forum be useful?
I wish it was, but…

I think it’s bizarre when people give the “Because MY question isn’t answered, this whole forum is useless” rant …
Forgive the paraphrase, but you just said “If you can’t answer my question, then everyone here knows very little about anything else.”
That’s an idiotic fallacy, sorry… (Actually, it’s more properly called a “Argument from Ignorance.”)
